Villa Serbelloni

Villa Serbelloni stands on a promontory above Lake Como at Bellagio in northern Italy, built in the fifteenth century on the site of an older castle that had been demolished in 1375 and altered many times since. Alessandro Serbelloni acquired the property in 1788 and enriched it with decorations and artworks from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Since 1960 it has served as the Bellagio Center of the Rockefeller Foundation, hosting international conferences and month long residencies for scholars and artists, with only its gardens open to the public; President John F. Kennedy visited in June 1963 when his helicopter landed on the grounds.
