Wilton House is an English country house at Wilton near Salisbury in Wiltshire, and has been the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke for more than four hundred years. It was built on the site of the medieval Wilton Abbey, which Henry VIII granted to William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke, after the dissolution of the monasteries. The house has notable literary associations: Shakespeare's theatre company performed there, and it hosted an important literary salon under the occupation of Mary Sidney, wife of the second Earl.
