The Department of Architecture (D-ARCH) at ETH Zurich, in Zurich, Switzerland, was founded in 1854 and provides education and research in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and urban design. It has approximately 2,100 students, 350 staff members and an annual budget of about 40 million Swiss francs, and houses research institutes including the Institute for Local, Regional and National Planning, founded in 1961, the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture, founded in 1967, and the Institute for Building Technology and the Institute of Historic Building Research and Conservation, both founded in 1972.
