Kingdom Centre is a 99 story mixed use skyscraper in the al Olaya district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, built from 1999 to 2002 at a cost of about 1.7 billion Saudi riyals by the American firm Ellerbe Becket working in joint venture with the Riyadh based firm Omrania and Associates. The tower rises 302.3 meters in a distinctive almond shaped plan crowned by an inverted parabolic arch, with its narrower ends facing east and west to reduce heat gain, and a 65 meter skybridge carrying a 300 ton steel observation deck open to visitors. On completion it surpassed the Faisaliah Tower as Saudi Arabia's tallest building, a title it held until 2010 and now ranks fifth tallest in the country, and it houses the King Abdullah Mosque, described as the most elevated mosque above ground level in the world.
