The Chateau de Chinon is a castle on the north bank of the river Vienne in Chinon, in central France, founded by Theobald I, Count of Blois, and later held by the counts of Anjou. Henry II of England took the castle from his brother in 1156 and favored it as a residence, dying there in 1189, and most of the standing structure dates to his reign.
