Gray-Jewett House

Residential Buildings

The Gray-Jewett House is a historic home at 80 Florida Avenue in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York. It was built in 1890 as a two-and-a-half-story brick residence set on a limestone foundation. Its design is described as transitional between the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles, so it combines elements of two late nineteenth century American house traditions in a single building. The property also includes a carriage house or garage and an ice house, outbuildings that belong to the same lot as the dwelling. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Within this atlas it is catalogued as a house, a small-scale residential work whose interest lies in its materials, its blend of two styles and its surviving outbuildings.
