Stacked White Tiered Donjon Himeji Castle is a hilltop Japanese castle complex in Himeji, a city in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 structures with advanced defensive systems dating from the feudal period. It is frequently called Hakuro-jo or Shirasagi-jo, meaning white heron castle, because of its brilliant white exterior and its supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.
