Larkin Administration Building

The Larkin Administration Building was an office building at 680 Seneca Street in Buffalo, New York, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Larkin Soap Company and completed in 1906 as Wright's first major commercial commission. The building combined a six-story main block with a five-story annex around a central light well, built of brick with ornamental sculpture by Richard Bock, and it introduced early innovations including built-in steel furniture, air circulation and cooling, and some of the first metal wall-hung toilet stalls. Wright designed the interior as a single open office space lit from above, a layout that influenced later open-plan office design. The building fell out of use after the company's decline and was demolished in 1950.
