Rocca Meli Lupi

Rocca Meli Lupi is a fortified palace in Soragna, in the province of Parma, Italy, its present structure dating to 1361 on a site fortified as early as 985 by Marquis Adalbert I of Milan. Held by the Pallavicino family in the twelfth century, the site passed by marriage to the Lupi family, who began its reconstruction, and then in 1513 to the combined Meli-Lupi family, whose descendants still reside there today. Behind a rough, largely unfinished exterior with quadrangular corner towers and a moat, the rocca opens into a porticoed courtyard with Ionic columns and richly frescoed interior rooms that blend medieval fortification with Renaissance and Baroque decoration, and the building carries the local legend of the ghost of Donna Cenerina.
