Tipsoo Lake Comfort Station

The Tipsoo Lake Comfort Station is a public restroom building near the northern entrance of Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state, designed by the National Park Service's Branch of Plans and Designs in the National Park Service Rustic style and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 under the supervision of Park Service chief architect Thomas Chalmers Vint. It is similar in design to the Sunrise Comfort Station elsewhere in the park. Two comfort stations were originally planned as part of a larger developed area near Tipsoo and Chinook Pass, but the plan was never carried past the toilet facilities and an entrance arch, and only this one building survives and remains in use. It is built with rough stonework rising to window sill level, a framed wall above, and a log framed roof covered in cedar shingles. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1991, as part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which recognizes the park's collection of Park Service rustic architecture.
