Villa Simonetta

Villa Simonetta is a Renaissance villa on Via Stilicone in Milan, Italy, built at the end of the 15th century for Gualtiero Bascape, chancellor to Ludovico il Moro, and reshaped in 1547 by architect Domenico Giunti, who added the side wings that gave it its present U-shaped plan and the nine-arched, barrel-vaulted portico on its facade, its pillars adorned with Tuscan-style semicolumns. The villa gained prestige under the Simonetta family during the Baroque period, declined in the 19th century, and suffered bombing damage in the Second World War before the municipality of Milan began restoring it in 1959.
