National Trust for Scotland

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) is a Scottish conservation charity established on 1 May 1931, initially as the National Trust for Scotland for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, following discussions held at Pollok House. Headquartered in Edinburgh, it describes itself as the charity that cares for, shares and speaks up for Scotlands heritage, and is the largest membership organisation in Scotland. The Trust owns and manages roughly 130 properties and about 76,000 hectares of land, including castles, historic sites, gardens, coastline and countryside, in a role comparable to the National Trust that covers England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
