The arts center in Paris by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, opened in 1977, which turned the building inside out: structure, ducts, and escalators worn on the exterior in coded colors so the floors inside stay completely free. Scandalous when new, it became one of the most visited cultural buildings in Europe and the flagship of high-tech architecture.
