Beaux-Arts architecture is the grand, academic classicism taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, blending French neoclassicism with Renaissance and Baroque ornament. It reached its fullest expression under France's Second Empire and Third Republic and spread from there to public and institutional buildings across Europe and the Americas into the early twentieth century. Grand Central Terminal in New York, completed in 1913, is a celebrated American example.
