Traditional Architecture

Traditional architecture is the built expression of a cultural heritage transmitted across generations, defined not by a single style or time period but by its geographical or cultural context. The term does not imply that building forms are static, since local craftspeople continuously adopt and adapt new techniques and approaches. Distinct from vernacular architecture, it does not exclude architect designed or monumental buildings, but instead spans a wide range of structures and building types including the vernacular. Broadly, all architectural styles can be divided into traditional and modernist groups, since modernist architecture was created in opposition to tradition.
