Glass is an amorphous, non-crystalline solid that is often transparent and chemically inert, giving it widespread practical, technological and decorative use in window panes, cladding and glazing as well as tableware and optics; soda-lime glass accounts for around 90 percent of modern manufactured glass. This entity is the generic sense of the material, used when a building's own source names its material only as "glass" without a specific treatment, distinct from a named specific type such as float glass, tempered glass, structural glass, stained glass or laminated glass already carried as their own entities in this atlas.

IntroductionQuote, Introduction
Glass is an amorphous (non-crystalline) solid. Because it is often transparent and chemically inert, glass has found widespread practical, technological, and decorative use in window panes, tableware, and optics. Due to its ease of formability into any shape, glass has been traditionally used for vessels, such as bowls, vases, bottles, jars and drinking glasses, leading to its use in stained glass windows and other glass art objects.
