A train station, also called a railroad station or railway station, is a railway facility where trains stop to load or unload passengers, freight or both. The cited article says it generally consists of at least one platform, one track and a station building providing such ancillary services as ticket sales, waiting rooms and baggage and freight service, and that stations on a single-track line often have a passing loop to accommodate trains traveling in the opposite direction. Locations at which passengers only occasionally board or leave a train, sometimes a short platform and a waiting area and sometimes no more than a sign, are also described. Buildings recorded in the atlas as railway stations are grouped under this concept.
